In order to give back to future generations of leaders, entrepreneurs, creatives, change-makers, and attorneys, Attorney Davis has established a $5000 scholarship—the Ticora Davis Smarts Funded Scholarship—for African American students graduating from Salisbury High School. By doing so, she hopes to encourage applicants to dream big and believe that anything is possible with hard work, resilience, and dedication.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

• You must be a U.S. resident or resident alien who is a graduating high school senior at Salisbury High School in Salisbury, North Carolina.

• Essays must be unique (not submitted elsewhere) and written by the scholarship application signator.

• All submissions should be in English.

•  Applicants must read, understand, sign and return to us the Ticora Davis SMARTS Funded Scholarship Essay Contest Application & Rules along with your submission.

• Only one submission per student will be considered.

GUIDELINES AND TIPS FROM THE JUDGES

The judges, who read hundreds of essays, have provided some key tips that will help you write a high quality essay.

• Answer the question. Submissions that do not answer the question will be disqualified.

• Use paragraphs and white space to separate your ideas.

• Meet the word count requirement.

• Use a tool like Grammarly to check your work. Free versions are often available.

• Submit your essay in either Word or PDF document.

All scholarship entries submitted to us, along with all copyright, trademark and other proprietary rights associated with the submission, become our property. By submitting an entry and the signed application form, you acknowledge that we will own all rights to publish and promote the content. The winner of the "Ticora Davis SMARTS Funded Scholarship" will be announced at the annual Salisbury High School awards banquet on May 11, 2023.

No, this scholarship is only open to graduating seniors attending Salisbury High School located at Salisbury, NC.

WINNERS PACKAGE

Depending on the school’s requirements, we’ll send the award check to the winner’s academic institution in their name and in the name of their institution.

*The scholarship recipient along with their family will be invited to a private dinner with Attorney Davis.
